Dutch
Sylvie's Present to the Club
We have unfortunately had to farewell Sylvie Vermeend
who has reluctantly returned to Groningen in Holland.
Sylvie was kept fully occupied during her stay here,
playing for both the Premier and Division 1 sides,
as well as helping to coach the Primary A Girls and
Div 3 Women. In amongst all this hockey Sylvie somehow
managed to fit in side trips to Asia and Fiji. Before departing, Sylvie presented the club with
a playing shirt from her Groningen club. The framed
shirt can be viewed at the clubrooms and in the picture
below where its being held by Valerie Piesse who initially
hosted Sylvie and club President, Pete Neale.
It is very likely Sylvie will be back in the near
future to enjoy a NZ summer and see the sights she
missed whilst fully immersed in the hockey season.
Sylvie has welcomed anyone interested in playing in
Holland to make contact with her.

The
club welcomes our new overseas players
Thanks to some excellent work from Geoff
Thompson during the off season, the
club has been very fortunate to gain the services
of 3 players from overseas. Ben
Cooper and Jon
To were the first to arrive. Both
are from the UK, with Jon having spent the last couple
of years in Australia. Ben is a member of the premier
men's side and Jon the division 1 men. Ben is also
helping coach the division 1 women. Sylvie
Vermeend is newly arrived from Groningen
in Holland, and hasn't taken long to make her impact
scoring the winning goal in her first game for the
Div 1 side in the last few seconds. We will be learning
a little more about all three over the next few weeks.
Canterbury

for the women where in the end two scholarships were
awarded such was the quality of applicants. The men's
2011 recepient is Scott
Gread. Scott is in the premier men's
team and comes to us from Christchurch Boys' High
School. The women's 2011 recepients are Rachel
McCann and Sian

member of the club, and a member of the premier women's
team for 3 years. Sian comes to us from St Margarets.
