Hope you have enjoyed a lovely summer break and your children have settled back into school. We are making a number of changes to our hockey program this year so please make a note of the dates relevant to your family as below.
We also have exciting news. Our Junior Club has been generously sponsored by BLUE SKY Finance. As a result we have created a position of Junior Development Coach within the junior club and Ata de Goldi has accepted the position. We are super excited to have such a top quality person taking on this role for 2015. Ata will be focused on coach and player development and our new Funsticks programme at Boys High turf. In addition Ata is taking our division 2 women’s team as part of the transition from junior to open grade hockey. Ata is extremely well regarded within our Canterbury Hockey community, she has a degree in sports coaching and for the last two seasons has coached the U18 Canterbury Women’s Association representative team. Our sponsors details will be available to view on our website.
Together with Ata we are developing a much improved coaching training programme for 2015. This starts with a coaching course being run for us by Canterbury Hockey for current and aspiring Junior Club coaches. (Details below.) We encourage parents to get involved with their children’s hockey – whether coaching a team or playing around on the turf at the weekend. The experience throughout Canterbury has been that you do not have to have been a hockey player to be involved, indeed sometimes non-players make the best coaches!
