Improving consistently throughout the season, the Junior 8 Superstars were moved up a division last week. Saturday brought their first game in the higher grade, against girls much older than themselves.
Thrilling the parents with one of their best games of the season, the girls held their own on the field. Despite being half the size of the opposition, they weren't phased. The score was an even 2 all after 15 minutes. Obviously, coach Kelvin Giddens had a fantastic team talk; because the Superstars began to shine in the second half.
Miki used her strong sweep on the sideline hits, creating some great opportunities for the strikers. Harewood had their part in assisting the win, in what we may describe as a Junior Moment. One of their players turned and ran with the ball; while a resonating shout of "wrong way!" rose from the supporters. Isla was pleased to have the ball delivered to her in the attacking circle, and promptly scored.
The final result was a 5-3 win to Burnside. Coach Giddens summed it up "They did terrifically. They're starting to get some positioning, which is amazing". Hayley was awarded player of the day for a fantastic effort.
