 Girls A team do the Club proud

Undefeated in the Competition, the Burnside girls faced Marist in the final. Suspense silenced the stands before the starting whistle, and then the whole place burst into support and rivalry between the opposing teams. At half time, Burnside was winning with two well finished goals from Claudia Reid.  After 13 more nail biting minutes, including a goal and shot to the post from Marist, the girls clinched the win. Bayley Anderson was named team Most Valuable Player.  Coach Scott said he was “Very proud of the way the girls played over the two days, especially in the final, and they were duly rewarded”. You’ve made your club proud girls!

Girls B team training rewarded

This team showed remarkable enthusiasm despite the rain, and were known for singing on the sideline. Coming 8^th in the tournament, the girls had a couple of good wins and a few close losses. “It should at least have been a tie!” emphasises Meg Smith, on their last game. Isabella House reflects “I liked the different rules”; and Isabella Inkson “It was competitive and it was fun!”. Kim Shaw was named team MVP. Assistant Coach April thought they were “Lots of fun to coach, I really enjoyed getting to know the girls better and seeing them work as a team.” And Coach Kelvin “The girls went very well for the first time playing together in competition, a little unlucky at times, but a great start to the season.”

Burnside Boys show enthusiasm for the game

Energetic and full of fun, the H.S.O.B. boys must be a handful to coach. I was lucky enough to have an interview with Timmy Duncan, who seemed to be really enjoying the tournament. When asked if he thought they would win their final game, he answered “Both teams think they have a chance. It’s a matter of which team has the best skill level”. Obviously his team did, because they went on to win the game and come 5^th in the tournament. Fergus Vickers was the team’s MVP. Coach Patrick writes “The guys improved heaps, played spiritedly and showed massive potential”. He would also like to thank Graham Jackson, Al Vickers, Tim Ward and Dickson for their help in coaching when he couldn’t make it to the games

Kayla Sharland - Blacksticks Player of the Year

Kayla Sharland has been named the 2012 Blacksticks Women's player of the year. Junior players, if you want to see her in action come and watch this weekend Saturday 4th May, 2pm at Nunweek Park HSOB Burnside v Carlton Redcliffs.

WORLD LEAGUE ROUND 3

Congratulations to Sian Fremaux, Kayla Sharland and Pippa Hayward who have been selected in the New Zealand Blacksticks team for the upcoming World League tournament in the Netherlands.
