The Burnside Lollypops Lucky or Unlucky?

As the season draws to an close, it is time for a good last effort from our Burnside teams. Unbeaten in this round, the Super 8 Lollypops set out to do just that on Saturday. An own goal, some close saves and a tight finish kept things interesting for both the players and supporters.

The weekend brought some great sunny weather for the hockey, and Burnside's much anticipated match against club rivals; Harewood. Burnside were determined to win. In the first half, Lizzie took a chance for her team by hitting the ball towards the attacking goal from outside the circle. A lucky (or unlucky?) touch from their goalie put it in, securing a 1 nil lead for the Lollypops.

After a few jelly snakes at half time, the Burnside girls were ready for some action. While their forwards pressured the Harewood defence, Emma and Caitlin tidied up any balls that came through. Tessa used some slinky dribbling skills to earn a penalty corner, yet after three consecutive shots was unable to score. A quick runaway by Harewood gave the backs some work to do, and the play stayed there until 3 goals were scored. Many attempts to get one back followed, with Gracie and Amy having some great shots at goal. Thankfully, Tessa scored off a PC in the last few minutes. The game ended with a fantastic diving save by goalie, Paris.

Dissapointed with the 3-2 loss, Caitlin commented "we are not playing our best". Coach Hayley, however, encouraged their efforts "there were some nice goals" she said. Gracie was awarded Player of the Day for some great attacking runs. Until next time, Harewood!
